What are some beginner jobs with transferable skills to the accounting/finance field?
If a person wants to work as a financial analyst/adviser, bookkeeper, or an accountant and has the right degree but no experience in the field, what are some start-up positions with transferable skills that will help land the aforementioned jobs? (Besides a teller)

Some larger cities have Account Temps which is an excellent way to get a good accounting job. Many of these jobs are temp to perm. Most employment services have an accounting division. Be sure to use one that doesn’t charge YOU to find you a job.
there are other jobs in the financial industry that aren’t “teller” jobs, but give you experience in the financial field.
I’ve been a cashier, a waitress, an assistant circulation manager for a small newspaper, a teller, a bookkeeper and various other positions in financial services before I got my current job as a financial analyst. Don’t rule out any job in any industry – accounting is part of every business!
You mention you have a relevant degree, with that you should be able to find an entry level position within a finance or accounting group at a mid/large company. If possible try to find a company with a good rotation program, where you would rotate through several areas of the company every 12 months or so for a few years and then determine which path you want.
If you cannot get into a company like that yet try to find a smaller company which does bookkeeping, CPA, financial planning, etc and see if they have any data enty type of jobs or something similar.
You should try to sit down and think about what it is you like and would want to do long-term….although Finance and Accounting are similar they are defenitely different paths. Here are a few examples.
Finance – planning, budgeting, analysis, M&A, treasury
Accounting – CPA, audit, financial reporting, A/P, A/R, control
Good luck
