I don’t know what the chances are for landing a rec deal after McNally Smith, and I would say, you don’t need a rec deal after your studies. After my studies, I joined a band that already had a deal. They chose me because I played my **** off and studied hard. But after that I started my own band and had great gigs and even more promo even without a deal. Today, just learn how to use social media and network with the right people. That’s better than any rec deal!

ok, im thinking of going here in two years when im done with high school. if i go here to study music performance on guitar, wat do you think are my chances of landing a record label? because it is my dream to play on stage with a band if i can get one started.

  • I studied there in 2000 when it was still known as Musictech and it was one of the best experiences of my life. All my teachers were highly professional and simply kind. I learned everything I needed to know to get my own record label going when I went back to Switzerland, and my knowledge brought me and my bands onto big stages and national TV and radio stations. I’m sure I wouldn’t have made it without the knowledge I acquired in Minnesota.

Very good thoughts on the music business today by Ron Sobel. “I don’t see [the music industry] on the Titanic,” Ron says and continues, “This is the best time for the music industry.” I agree and think that the more any kind of music business invests into new media the more successful and sustainable that brand will become. Great video! — I’d like to visit McNally Smith again.
