Stock Market goes up on bad news – goes up on horrific news – Is this for real?
What is driving the markets lately? It makes no sense whatsoever and the explanations given sound more like either guesses or wishful thinking. On the worst employment figures in over 30 years and major newspapers questioning whether the numbers are being cooked by the govt – the market rallies. ***? Has the market just become a total joke and is being manipulated by the govt or powerful Wall St players? Many pros say no way but then they can’t break with their good ole boys network can they? A lot of other pros are letting the cat out of the bag. This whole thing looks engineered – our retirements are being destroyed along with our savings to what end? – What do you think?

WHats driving the market now is the same thing that always drives the markets, the speculations of investors. Right now what you are seeing is investors dont have any faith in long term investments because of the upcoming Obama administration. You are seeing a bunch of investors getting out of the market and hedge fund managers making quick trades and taking short term profits. So the market goes down a bunch and then up a little….then down a bunch again. As we get closer and closer to the Obama promised tax increases and increases in captital gains taxes, you will see the market sink big time.
Surely you didnt think the market would go up with an obama election win, did you?
Whoa, boy. You can’t watch from day to day, you have to look at the big picture.
The stock market’s investors probably figured that the unemployment news today was not going to be good, so that had been factored into their decisions in recent days and weeks. It’s the big surprises that can send stocks way up or down without much notice. It feels like the markets will stumble along like this, more or less, for the time being. It will float around this level for a while until there is a strong reason to go up or down.
If the stock market was going to be manipulated, it would be done much better than this. There is absolutely no purpose to a drop of this size — why would it be engineered? Business cycles happen, my friend, and for a variety of reasons this is going to be a bad cycle downward.
